Aubrey's Last Day of Kindergarten

Aubrey saying goodbye to her teacher, Mrs. McCormack. She LOVED her teacher and was sad to say goodbye today. She was an amazing teacher who helped Aubrey learn so much!Okay, so get ready for some hardcore bragging and a long-winded post. . .I can't say enough about my kids sometimes! I can't help myself.

So today was Aubrey's last day of Kindergarten(sniff sniff). I can't believe my oldest daughter just finished Kindergarten! It went by so quickly and my little girl has just grown up so much this year. Aubrey had "an amazing year" as her teacher wrote on her report card:) Here is my list of her accomplishments this year:

-She was a wonderful student, a good example to her peers, respectful and kind to others, and excelled at everything she did.
-She was of course well-behaved and never got into trouble. Anyone that knows her, knows this was a given. She's such a good girl.

-She finished the school year at one of the highest levels of reading in her class.

-She was chosen to be the first "Star of the Week" in her class.

-She was in the first group of Kindergarteners chosen as "Artist of the Week" and her artwork was displayed in the hall.

-Aubrey was a true friend to others. One time there was an issue with another girl in her class. This girl said some pretty seriously mean things to Aubrey(so serious that it sounded scary to me). It was really upsetting to Aubrey. I let the teacher know about it and the situation improved almost immediately. I think this little girl had to see the principal even. I remember I had told Aubrey to stay away from her and not play with her anymore. And what did Aubrey say to me? "Mom, I still want to try and be her friend. People can change." She said that so sincerely that it brought a tear to my eye. The innocence in Aubrey's little face and the willingness to forgive this girl who had said such terrible things to her, seriously humbled me. Even though my advice was to stay away from her(because I just didn't want Aubrey to feel hurt by her again), I told her to do what she felt she should do. Aubrey tried to befriend this little girl and it truly did help. The little girl started to change and her and Aubrey ended up getting along much better the rest of the year. I emailed her teacher telling her how Aubrey told me things were improving and I also told her about how Aubrey had insisted on "trying to help" this girl to change. Aubrey's teacher responded with an email that said, "This is beautiful! Aubrey is such a kind-hearted person. I am so thankful to know her. "And the children shall lead them..." Thank you for letting me know this." The next week her teacher even selected her to be recognized at a schoolwide assembly "for being a true friend and for being respectful and caring to others." Aubrey told me they read about her and had all the kids in her class give her a pat on the back during the assembly-I bet she was so embarassed(anyone that knows her, knows she is a shy girl:) When she told me about that, I was so proud of her. Aubrey just shined like a little star this year and I couldn't be more proud as a mommy.
Aubrey, Daddy and I are so proud of all you accomplished this year in Kindergarten! But we are mostly proud of your example, how close you are to your Savior, and your testimony of the gospel. Our family wouldn't be complete without your special little spirit! You keep us in line and remind us to do the things our family should do: like reading our scriptures, saying our prayers, and family home evenings. You were born first for a reason-you are going to be someone your little sisters(and hopefully future brothers!) will look up to and I know you will make so many wonderful choices in your life. You are already someone we look up to!
Here are more pics from today. . .
Aubrey and her best bud Courtney after school. It was SO windy as you can probably tell. I had to take 3 pictures of them before I got one where you can actually see their faces! I was probably embarassing Aubrey clicking away like a mad woman:)

Aubrey's teacher made each one of the children a laminated scrapbook page/poster. It was so cute and thoughtful-something we'll treasure forever.

Here's Aubrey with the book she "published" this year. She wrote and illustrated it. It is so cute. I may scan the pages and post those soon. She did such a great job! The class even had an "Author's Party" last week complete with juice boxes and cookies.

So, summertime is finally here! Yea!! Time for relaxing, swimming, vacations, and fun! And then I'll have a first grader(yikes!)

I can't believe they are not kindergarteners anymore! Addyson unfortunately finished out the school year a little early because she got the stomach flu, so I didn't get any fun pictures with Mrs. McCormack. I loved that laminated scrapbook page, it actually got me quite choked up- she is the best kindergarten teacher ever!
Aubrey really is a great kid and I can't tell you how many times Addyson told me how she wanted to be good like Aubrey.

wendy-aubrey told me about addyson not feeling well and having to leave:( i'm sorry that happened! how is she feeling today? thanks for the nice things you said about aubrey:) that was really sweet of you. i need to drop off addyson's report card to you. i didn't know mrs. mccormack put it in aubrey's folder until yesterday evening! it doesn't have the actual report card in it because of some error the school encountered(we'll get them in the mail soon), but there is the social skills/work habit sheet and a coupon inside. well, thats whats in aubreys anyways. i'll run it by your place today!

You should forewarn people that have already put their mascara on for the day!!! YEAH AUBREY! I didn't realize I'd get emotional reading about someone else's kid, but I remember Aubrey when she was like 2 and you could already tell she had such a sweet personality. My favorite was when I'd come over to your home in good ole CC (I'm trying to be vague) and she'd always "hide" behing the couch pillows when I looked at her. But then one day, I looked at her and she didn't hide. We even got to play a few games and fun things like that when I came over. Now she's almost a 1st grader! We love your family and we wish we lived closer!

aw kim! reading your memories of aubrey made me get teary eyed:) aubrey has come a long way. i remember so well those days where she wouldn't even look at other people, she was that shy, always hiding her face from everyone as a baby and toddler. i remember always worrying about her, wondering if she would ever outgrow it. and thankfully, she did! she is still a little shy, but NOTHING like before. she is becoming more outgoing and just growing into this beautiful young lady! i wish we could see each other again-its been too long kim:( your kids are getting so big too. . .

OK, that settles it. I'll make Rand find a job in your neck of the woods...it's not like we aren't going to move again anyways.

So glad she got a great K teacher! That makes all the difference. And take advantage of her not being embarrassed by all the picture taking, I am sure that time will come. Unfortunately, I think I am closer to that than you are :( No, I am thinking positive and they will always want me to take their pictures. Either way I will take them and always love to embarras them!

What a sweet post. Your Aubrey is a special little gal. She reminds me of my mom who always saw the best in people. It is amazing to me that Aubrey has that ability at such a young age.... what a tender heart she has.

By the way, I think she looks just like you.

Now that it is time for vacation have you made your CA plans yet? Did you get my email? As I said before, you are more than welcome to stay with us if that would work into your plans.

Have a good day and Congrats Aubrey.

I can't believe you are going to first grade already. It looks like you had a great time in kindergarten and that you had a nice teacher. You are so young and already a little missionary to your friends and even your teacher. Have a fun summer and we will see you in a couple of weeks.
I Love you!!
