Aubrey's Baptism Day: September 11, 2009

"Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. "John 3:5

Aubrey's baptism service was beautiful. She followed in the footsteps of our Savior, Jesus Christ by taking this important step in her life. Our church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, aka LDS or Mormon, believes that baptism is essential in our journey back to our Heavenly Father. I thought I'd give a brief description on our church's beliefs on the subject of baptism for anyone reading this who may not be a member and is curious. Baptism is a sacred ordinance where covenants are made with God. We believe the age of accountability, the age where children start to really realize the difference between right and wrong, is 8 years old. This is when children are able to make the choice to be baptized and also make the choice to follow Christ by taking upon them His name, keeping His commandments and always remembering Him. With those promises you make at baptism, God promises to give you the gift of the Holy Spirit and that it will always be with you. You have to keep true to your promises to have the Spirit with you always. The Holy Spirit is a huge blessing- He guides you in your life and also brings you great comfort and joy. Baptism cleanses you of your sins and repentance is necessary to keep yourself clean the remainder of your life. Repentance is only possible through the atonement of Jesus Christ. I am very grateful for the atonement of Jesus Christ because without it, we would not be able to repent and we would not be able to return to live with our Father in Heaven. We are very proud of Aubrey for making this choice and know she will be blessed for it. She was very excited for this special day. And I know she'll try her hardest to make the right choices-she already does!

We had Joey's parents, my parents and siblings, my grandparents and my aunt and uncle all there to witness it along with many wonderful friends. Aubrey looked beautiful, like an angel. It was a wonderful sight to see her and her daddy together in white. I know it was a very special day for her and for all of us. My testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ grew so much that night as I watched my first born enter the waters of baptism.

After her baptism and confirmation, Aubrey's best friend Courtney gave her a big hug:)

Back home, we had cake and punch with family and a few friends. My sister, Tara, made this BEAUTIFUL cake. CTR stands for "Choose The Right." Its a reminder to kids(and adults!) to always make the right choices. Kids that are members of our church are often found wearing CTR rings or something CTRish:)
Aubrey and her Great Grandparents
Uncle Ricky, Aunt Cindy and Aubrey(my mom's siblings)

Our girls and the Stromness girls being silly and having fun. These 3 girls have lots of fun with our 3 girls:) And we are so lucky to live one street over from them!
Later in the evening, Joey and I gave her our baptism gift. We decided to get her a James Avery sterling silver charm bracelet. We thought it would be something nice to give her-she can add special charms to it throughout the years. We also gave her the first charm, a "CTR" :) We hope this bracelet remains something special to her forever.
Joey's parents had a painting done by my sweet friend, Marie in England-it is beautiful. Its a drawing of a little girl in a baptism dress with the Dallas temple behind her. It has Aubrey's name and birthday on it. Its really cute and is very special! It was a very thoughtful gift. I love that we'll have your artwork in our home now Marie. Thanks Cyndi & Joe!

My mom gave Aubrey her Baptism Book. She opened it before the baptism so it could be out during the baptism for people to sign. My mom put pictures in it and wrote her testimony inside. She also had Aubrey's other Grandma and her Great Grandma write in it too. This book will be something to treasure always. My mom also made Aubrey a cute little wrist corsage that she wore after her baptism.

We were blessed with the perfect evening! We love you and are so proud of you Aubrey. You are a special little girl that we expect great things from! Thanks for your shining example to not only your sisters and friends, but to us as your parents.

Thank you...thank you...thank you for this detailed account and pictures of Aubrey's special day.
I was thinking of you all day Fri. I wanted to call but I thought that I should not take time away from your family get together. So, now, after reading this post, I almost feel like I was there with you. I have looked at all the pictures several times. I don't see me in the pictures but I feel like I was there.

I am so happy for Aubrey. The dress, her cake (good job Tara)the bracelet and Marie's picture all combined to make even more memories of her special day. Of course the best memories will be that so many family and friends came to support her. You have a great family.

Marie has been telling me about the picture. I would love to see it better. Maybe you could show more of it on another post.

I love you all. Happy belated birthday Aubrey and congratulations for taking this special and sacred step in your life. What a wonderful day you had. Be sure to write it down in your journal or baptism book Aubrey. One day you will look back on your account of your baptism and treasure it.

Seeing Aubrey in her pretty dress looking like an angel reminds me that I need to get busy making Claire's confirmation dress. She turns 8 on halloween and will be baptised in Nov.

I send love and best wishes to all.
