A new addition to the family

I interrupt the coverage of my Utah trip to bring you an important announcement(and no, I'm not pregnant:), we just bought a puppy! We haven't decided a name yet(though me and the girls are leaning towards Max, any ideas?), but meet our new little guy! He is a 9 week old Maltipoo(Maltese/Poodle mix) and he is perfect!

I originally told the kids that some day when they were old enough to help out with a dog more, we would get one(and I meant when they were teenagers!). But lately, Aubrey has been talking about puppies so much and I just had this feeling that now is the time for us. We have this little space right now where we don't have a leetle baby, so I felt I could devote the next year to puppyhood. And then our kids can grow up with a little dog in their life, which I think will be wonderful for them in creating memories. So rather than wait for Christmas, we decided the sooner the better(in case we do get pregnant soon). I spent the past couple of weeks reading books, searching the internet, trying to learn and decide if we were truly ready and what type to purchase. After reading several books(I highly recommend the books by Cesar Millan), we decided, lets do it! We were between buying a Havanese or a Maltipoo(both are small and social and both shed little and are great for allergy sufferers). Oh, and both are cute! :) Joey has this week off so he and I secretly went puppy shopping this afternoon while the older girls were in school. We both agreed on this little guy just about instantly. And Cali did too. He has a sweet little spirit and the perfect amount of spunk all wrapped into one teeny package(He was half the size of his brothers! Hes a little one!) He is already doing so good and the kids are in heaven. He is so very loveable and already doing "his business" outside pretty good for a pup! The girls were so surprised and so happy when they came home-almost worth all the doggy poo I'll be picking up:) haha. As I type, he sleeps peacefully in his crate. He fits in perfect with our family and I already can't imagine not having him! And Joey finally has a guy to relate with around here:)

Sheer delight

This picture just makes me laugh. Cali is just chillin like, "I'm so done with that already." :) She had spent half the day with the puppy already and I guess was ready to read.
But then she got thoughtful later and decided to give the "dog" the "Go, dog. Go." book. Very smart Cali:)
Wish us luck on our new adventure!

Oh these pictures are so cute (and yes, I'm sure he's soooo much cuter in person)! And he's so leetle, too. I can't wait to visit you guys and the new pup this weekend. :) I'm so glad you guys finally got a puppy. And I like the name Max. It suits him. But yes, I do like Bear, too. ;)

What a little tiny cutie! It is so much better to get a dog they can grow up with, otherwise they leave and you are left to take care of it all alone. However, we got a dog before kids and she won't last 2 many more years so my kids will be learning a sad lesson too soon.

Congrats on the new addition Holly! A dog is a wonderful thing for a child to have in their lives. We have two new pups up at the big house I work at, a male and a female yorkie/maltese cross. They are just adorable and very tiny. Ours are called Pepper and Poppy. I wonder what you will call yours! He's a sweetie!

Even though I think you might be a little bit crazy--he sure is a cutie!!! Actually, I have a friend whose family used to breed and raise maltipoos and she said they are THE BEST!!! Good luck with the little guy!

He is a cutie!! Your girls look so excited! Remember, dogs are like kids. They are going to have the same problems kids have (potty training, etc.) and you have to be as patient and loving with them as you are your own kids. Also, make sure the kids are doing what they should to help out with him so it doesn't fall only on you. This is a great growing experience for them! What wonderful parents ya'll are!!
If it's Max, you have to call him Maxie-poo! Ok, maybe not!
I highly recommend taking him to petsmart (after he has had enough vaccines) and letting the girls help you train him with their puppy classes. Or look through your area for a kennel club that teaches puppy training. I can't stress the importance enough since you have kids!! Too many people came into the clinic we worked at and did not heed that advice and we saw the outcomes. It is something we will do when for the next puppy we can get.
Good luck!! This is just another fun part of the adventure of life!! Yeah for that cute little puppy!!

I am so excited for your family and the new addition! He is quite adorable! Not sure if I want you stealing one of my possible boy names, but it's a cute name and well it's up to you and your fam to decide! Wish you all the luck and patience you are going to need for this new endeavor!
