Feeding the baby...

Ever since Luke turned 6 months, its been fun watching him try to figure out this whole solid food thang. The very first time we fed him(rice cereal), he definitely gave us some hilarious faces that I had to share with you. He didn't spit it out though! He hasn't met anything he won't gulp down yet :) Ammon laughed and laughed. Wesley wasn't too sure(or Joey I guess haha:)I also had to include a couple of big sis, Cali, feeding him one afternoon. Its just so cute.  She was thrilled to do it. The kids love to help me feed him and its very helpful!

Ammon the preschooler

After I got all of the girls registered at their schools, I searched and searched for a preschool for Ammon..and was having no luck. I started to feel so so sad and worried. This boy had been counting down the months until he turned 5..because he knew that meant he could finally go to preschool(he will be an older kindergartner since he has a September birthday). Anyways, one of the preschools I contacted that was full gave me a couple of recommendations. I found that they each had an opening so we visited each and one school totally kicked the others butt :) I felt so good about the place and the people we met there. I was SO excited(and Ammon was too). And we hadn't missed the first day of school, it was just the following week! He decided to wear his Star Wars shirt that day, I spiked up his hair with gel and he looked mighty handsome. It was so fun to see him so excited and pumped. He was beyond ready. Joey met us at the school so he could be there to say goodbye and watch him walk in for the first time. Such a bittersweet moment! Ammon has always been an easy going kid with not many worries-he walked right in eager to learn and play with new friends(but mostly to learn..he said when he got home with a very concerned face, "Mom, I didn't learn anything!" LOL It was funny. He said they just played and had fun. I told him well, the first day of school is usually just fun and meeting people. And honestly, preschool should be all fun! :) He thought they'd be mastering reading and writing on day 1 or something. Funny boy. Smart boy...he actually can already read and write a lot! He did have a great first day. I love his teachers and the director there. They truly love the kiddos. I miss my Ammon in the mornings now, but love that he's learning and growing. Below are pictures from his Meet the Teacher and his first day of school...

Okay, he did look back. Couldn't walk away without giving me a sweet little smile...oh, my heart.

Taking a breather

The day after we arrived in Iowa, we felt we needed to get out and let the kids run around. We drove around and found this fun little park nearby..it even had a "covered bridge" to walk through. I remember thinking while we were there, wow, we are here! We made it. The kids ran all over the place after a long day in the car. We breathed in summer air that was much cooler than the air in the Texas summer. I also remember thinking, I like this. I'm not sweating! I could get used to summers like this.

Aubrey's 14th!!!

14 is a big number in the life of an LDS teen. Dance age. We have a daughter old enough to attend dances now. What the hecky?! This is all going by too fast. Make it stop! So we kinda spoiled this girl rotten this year. Not only did we party hard Sesame Street style(reliving her 1st birthday..we even reused the candle from 13 years ago!)..but we gave her an iPhone. If you know this kid, she deserved it. It wasn't the latest greatest, but its a really nice phone. Same as mine actually. She was very surprised and very grateful. She has taken good care of her old phone the past two years. She has shown responsibility. She has shown will power and isn't obsessed with it. She has done great and passed all tests :) I was so excited to see her open it! Our other gift was tickets to see Rachel Platten perform..but unfortunately that ended up getting cancelled :( BOO! But we will figure out something else similar soon... we had a really fun night as a family just being silly and playing pin the nose on Elmo. Aubrey enjoyed her DQ ice-cream cake(good choice Aub..and once again, they are going easy on me and I didn't have to make it ;) Her siblings all got her sweet gifts too. Oh, and how can I forget the guitar amp and pickup my parents sent her?  She was very excited about that!! Good job, Dad :)

We love you so much, Aubrey! I have been so impressed with you, especially lately. The move had to be the hardest on you, as you are the oldest. But you put your trust in us and in the Lord. Your attitude went from a lil negative/worried to embracing the whole situation and even becoming excited about it. Your positive attitude actually helped me to stay positive too. You are so spiritually in tune..you read your scriptures and pray daily...you write in your journal daily...I know you live your life righteously and have the Spirit with you. That brings me so much comfort as your mother! Thanks for the example you are to all of us. You are the perfect big sis and leader. You are seriously gorgeous and talented in SO MANY ways. We've just recently realized how extremely musically talented you are. Piano, guitar, dancing and singing! You can do it all. I love your personality and how fun you are. You are HILARIOUS. Maybe I say that because our humor is quite similar. And I think I'm hilarious too hahaha. I've always felt like you were one of my besties :) I'm grateful for who you are and the love you share with all of us. I don't know what I'd do without you..imagining you going off on a mission and to school really makes me sad! We only have 5 years left with you..sniff sniff. Thats going to fly by, I know it :( Okay, I'll stop getting all mushy weepy now. We all love you so much and hope your 14th birthday was all you hoped it would be!!

New house!

We found an awesome house last month! The week after we moved into the apartment we found a few more homes to go look at. When I walked into this one I was wowed. I wanted it immediately :) We made an offer, got under contract, inspections were perfect, everything worked out! We were able to move in within the month(we closed September 3). It meets so many of our needs right now: 6 bedrooms, school district we really wanted, only 10 minutes away from Joey's work(Yea! That was a HUGE plus), good sized lot(with a hill in the backyard that will be awesome for sledding!), practically new-only 3 years old and the previous owners had no kids so its immaculate, finished basement(we've never had a basement before so this is cool!), on a culdesac, and lots of space/square footage. The only two things about the house we aren't sure about are the size of the kitchen and the size of the girls bathroom they share. Both are smaller than we would like. We'll just have to make it work. Probably will put vanities in the girls rooms so they aren't in the bathroom doing makeup/hair on top of each other. And we'll add furniture(drawers/cabinet of some kind) like the previous owners had in the breakfast area for more storage space. Its gorgeous inside. GORGEOUS! Everything is updated and new. We won't have to spend years redoing floors and appliances. Everything is awesome and I don't want to change any of it. Move in ready :) I was so so excited to move in. Especially after how crammed we were into that apartment. Ugh. That made me extra grateful for the new house! Here are pics! The first few are from when we took the kids to walk through it for the first time(with the previous owners stuff still inside..they kept it so nice..I think we will trash the joint with our crew;). And then the last few are from when we were moving in. . .Joey carrying me across the threshold, the kids meditating in the crazy beautiful GREEN grass, our first dinner there(Wendy's with frosties:), unpacking, and the boys playing in the pool..with no water. Hahaha, yep, they were just so excited when the movers pulled it off the truck they had to play inside it.  We are loving it here so far! We've had neighbors come and introduce themselves. One brought us treats, another brought us a potted plant and another brought us fun goodies for all of us. We've appreciated the warm welcome. And the weather has been amazing. We have been outside and visiting parks constantly. There are so many awesome parks here. Who would've thought Iowa would be so awesome?
